And the winners are…

St. Mary’s County Lions are excited, delighted and proud to announce the winners of the first round of competition in the Lions Club International Annual Peace Poster Contest:

Lions from Lexington Park and Hollywood, together with our community partners, the St. Mary’s County Arts Council and Red Chalk Studios from Virginia Beach, sponsored the local contest open to all St. Mary’s County students ages 11, 12, and 13.

Posters submitted were sorted by school attended, and a winner selected from each school represented. Winning posters from St. Mary’s County were forwarded to the district level where the competition will include entries from Calvert County, Charles County, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, and Washington DC. Winning posters at each level advance to the next judging levels: local, district, multiple district and international.

The theme of the 2017-2018 Peace Poster Contest is “The Future of Peace.” Each poster was judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme. Our judges this year were Nell Elder (St. Mary’s County Arts Council), Carrie Patterson (Yellow Door Studios), and Mary Ida Rolape (Creek Side Art).
